Utility standardizes Energy Flaps for trailers

Oct. 17, 2023
Michelin’s molded aerodynamic flaps, which are specifically designed for Utility chassis, help reduce vehicle drag while withstanding extreme road conditions.

Michelin Energy Flaps now are the standard specification on Utility trailers and available to all Utility OEM dealers.

The 24-in.-by-28-in. flaps, specifically designed for Utility trailer chassis, are the first standard aerodynamic flaps in the industry, according to the companies.

“The Michelin Energy Flap is designed to increase safety with optimally dispersed water spray downward, away,” Pierluigi Cumo, Michelin North America B2B VP of Marketing, said in a news release. “Expanding our partnership with Utility Trailers demonstrates that Michelin is providing the latest technology in energy flaps and delivering on our promise of a more sustainable future.”

Michelin Energy Flaps—which boast advanced technological construction, ultraviolet resistance, and the ability to withstand operating temperatures from minus-40 degrees Fahrenheit to 212 degrees F—are designed to reduce vehicle drag. A low-flex and anti-sail design helps keep Energy Flaps straight while the vehicle is in motion.

The patented mounted surface also helps assure optimal installation without drilling. The flap is made with up to 80% recycled materials.
