ATA chooses Turnpike for Interstate One drivers

Oct. 9, 2012

Drivers of the American Trucking Assns. (ATA) Interstate One truck will be monitored with XRS Corp.’s Turnpike mobile solution. The truck, which includes the ATA Image Trailer hauled by an America’s Road Team Captain, visits various schools, community events and more to education the public on highway safety, the job of a truck driver and the trucking industry.

Turnpike is a fleet optimization platform that offers electronic logs. It is an easy-to-install solution that runs on drivers’ existing cell phones, smartphones and tablet computers. Turnpike will run on Motorola Xyboard for the America’s Road Team Captains, XRS said.

“We’re honored to have America’s Road Team Captains use our system,” said Christian Schenk, vice president of market development and product marketing at XRS. “Turnpike puts safety and compliance in the palms of drivers’ hands using mobile devices, and we’re excited that ATA’s public image and outreach program recognizes the importance of electronic logs in improving safety on the road.”

The ATA Image Trailer is a 53-ft. custom drop deck show trailer, fully wrapped in an American flag themed graphic, features a mobile conference room with seven projection screens, educational displays and a truck driving simulator.

It is pulled by America’s Road Team Captains, elite professional truck drivers with millions of miles of accident-free driving, who take a few days each month to meet with the public, news media, students, transportation officials and government, business and community leaders to demonstrate the trucking industry’s commitment to safety and serve as the industry’s ambassadors.

The drivers will drive a Volvo VNL 780 tractor as Volvo Trucks will once again be a sponsor of America’s Road Team.

”Volvo Trucks’ support of America’s Road Team is one of our proudest partnerships,” said Magnus Koeck, Volvo Trucks vice president, marketing and brand management.  “The work that America’s Road Team does nationwide is indispensable and there is great synergy between the team and Volvo’s commitment to safety.”

The VNL 780 is equipped with Volvo’s fuel-saving I-Shift automated manual transmission; the Volvo Enhanced Stability Technology (VEST) by Bendix, which is a full electronic stability program that assists drivers in maintaining control during emergency maneuvers; and the Volvo Enhanced Cruise (VEC), which integrates the advanced collision avoidance technology with the truck’s cruise control.

“American Trucking Associations is proud to partner with XRS Corporation,” said Elisabeth Barna, vice president, image & outreach advocacy at ATA. “Interstate One is used to spread the word across the country about the trucking industry and the industry’s commitment to highway safety, so to have this mobile technology that’s devoted to safety and compliance for each of the drivers is significant.”
