A&R Wholesale Distributors, which delivers food items to schools, colleges, local hospitals and hotels in an area encompassing over 46,000 square miles of Southern California, has implemented TeleNav Track to increase employee accountability and help standardize day-to-day operations. The announcement was made in a joint release by Telenav and Sprint, which offers the TeleNav Track solution as part of its wireless communications services. A&R is also using Nextel Direct Connect and wireless devices from Sprint for instant employee communication.

According to Telenav and Sprint, as nutritional requirements became more restrictive and items dense in sugar and sodium were no longer allowed in schools, A&R Wholesale Distributors had to start offering a broader range of products to stay compliant. After expanding its offerings to meet demands, the company needed to ensure it was reaching maximum efficiency while keeping deliveries on schedule.

By implementing TeleNav Track on all of its drivers’ Nextel Direct Connect phones, A&R is able to monitor the location of its drivers in real time and from any computer. Drivers also have access to turn-by-turn GPS directions whenever they need them, helping to reduce unnecessary mileage. This increased insight has given the A&R management team greater control over day-to-day operations and associated expenses, according to Telenav.

“TeleNav Track enables us to make sure our drivers keep to their predetermined routes,” said Brian Fay, operations manager for A&R.. “The five or more delivery hours we save each week as a result of TeleNav Track add up to over 260 hours saved a year. Teamed with the decrease we have seen in unnecessary overtime payouts, TeleNav has shown us significant and continual savings.”

To verify forgotten time punches or suspect behavior, the company generates breadcrumb reports that outline employee locations throughout the day. This helps eliminate payroll discrepancies, in addition to keeping drivers focused and on time. With customizable alerts, emails are automatically sent to A&R management whenever a driver is stopped for a certain length of time or when a set speed is surpassed. As a result, according to A&R, it can eliminate driver inconsistencies and institute different procedures for more time consuming deliveries. Additionally, the company reported it has seen a 75%percent decrease in its driver speeding tickets since implementation.
