Blue Tree unveils portable version of R:COM

Jan. 31, 2013

Tracking and telematics provider Blue Tree Systems is introducing a portable version of its in-cab R:COM terminal that retains all the same features of the existing R:COM in-cab communication system, but instead exists as a one-piece ‘plug and play’ device that is temporarily mounted on the dash of a vehicle.

Mark Whitney, Blue Tree’s product development manager, said the portable version of R:COM is plugged directly to the vehicle diagnostics and, with its permanently attached and durable antenna, can then be easily installed and removed from any vehicle.

Whitney said Blue Tree developed a portable version of its R:COM system as carriers wanted to be able to shift devices during times of high cargo volume or when extra capacity is required at short notice.

“Job management, turn-by- turn navigation and two-way communication with leased vehicles can now be conducted in exactly the same manner as it is with regular drivers/vehicles,” he explained. “Fleets keep the Portable system on hand for precisely these situations, ensuring that the addition of a last minute owner-operator or leased vehicle occurs seamlessly.”

Whitney added that the portable R:COM’s ruggedized screen is  designed for use in tough operating environments, with the unit containing a variety of features, from hours of service (HOS) tracking, driver messaging with predefined quick messages and custom data entry form messages, text to speech, satellite navigation and job management features.
