XTRA adds free tracking service for leased trailers

Aug. 28, 2013

Basic trailer tracking service at no charge is now being offered to fleets on new long-term leased trailers from XTRA Lease, the company said.

XTRA Lease noted its offered basic trailer tracking on dry van rentals for free but is now upping the ante to include such basic tracking service at no extra cost on all newly leased dry vans and late model reefers, model-year 2010 and newer.

The services will enable fleets to view current and historical trailer locations, “drill down” into dormancy and usage data utilization info to better understand how trailers are being used, as well as provide e-mail subscription reports offering the latest location and dormancy information on those leased units.

“The service has evolved into a critical fleet management tool, and transportation professionals now expect services like trailer tracking to help them improve equipment utilization,” noted Bill Franz, XTRA Lease president and CEO.

“Our goal is to ensure that fleets have the necessary tools to monitor their rental and leased trailers’ operational performance, ensuring they receive maximum benefit from every rented and leased trailer,” he added. “This is another step in helping them succeed.”

XTRA Lease emphasized that it will continue to offer full service tracking with leases for a fee to fleets desiring additional monitoring and sensor capabilities. The company also plans to keep offering basic trailer tracking on over-the-road dry van rentals – and now late model reefers – at no charge.

XTRA Lease is also offering a free webinar – Greater Productivity and Utilization Through Trailer Tracking on Thurs., Sept. 12, at 2:00 p.m., hosted by Craig Nolle, the firm’s trailer tracking manager, to help fleets learn how to better manage rental and lease trailers via tracking services.
