Omnitracs adds tire, fuel features to MCP 50

March 24, 2014

Grapevine, TX. Omnitracs is adding tire pressure monitoring (TPM), trailer tire inflation alerts (TTIA) and exact fuel applications to on its Mobile Computing Platform 50 (MCP50). The company announced the new MCP 50 features March 23 at the Truckload Carriers Assn. annual meeting here, just outside Dallas.

With TPM, the MCP50’s user interface displays a graphical tire health indicator that codes the severity of events, making it easier to identify which tires are normal and which are having issues. For critical events defined by the fleet, the application offers configurable alerts that can be sent to drivers and company personnel through the host software, SMS and e-mail. For better analysis and troubleshooting, TTIA provides supporting data for generated alert events including alert labels, vehicle ID, time, location, vehicle speed and more.

“With the addition of TPM and TTIA, fleet managers can better enforce proper tire health across their fleet, which will reduce expenses, help avoid accidents or blowouts and reduce fuel consumption,” said Vikas Jain, vice president and general manager of software as a service at Omnitracs.

“TPM provides our drivers and back office personnel with timely and detailed information that helps us proactively address tire conditions before they become more serious issues, such as a blowout,” said Jimmy Carter, fleet manager, Baird Transport. “By being proactive, we save money and increase driver safety on the road.”

The new Exact Fuel application monitors and transmits critical fuel level details, such as time and location data, directly to fleet managers to fleet managers, allowing them to better correlate fuel usage to fuel purchase events. The information allows for timelier fuel stop decisions and reduces out-of-route miles and fuel shrinkage, Omnitracs says.
