Creditsafe adds FMCSA data to credit reports

June 11, 2015
Creditsafe has now integrated Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) data into its credit reports. FMCSA is the agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) responsible for monitoring and developing safety standards for commercial motor vehicles operating in interstate and intrastate commerce. Creditsafe said it is one of a few select providers authorized by FMCSA to collect and report this government-sourced data. Companies that do business with transportation carriers and shippers can now get important safety and credit information from Creditsafe on any motor carrier in the U.S. required to hold a registered Motor Carrier Number with the FMCSA. The data available through Creditsafe includes fleet sizes, safety ratings, types of goods transported and solvency information.“The addition of motor carrier safety data to our credit reports makes the vetting process more efficient and thorough for our transportation customers, while helping them reduce the costs associated with collecting this data from other external sources,” said Matthew Debbage, president of Creditsafe’s U.S. operations. “Access to this information is critical for companies that do business with any domestic motor carrier.”The Motor Carrier Management Information System is a computerized system that the FMCSA maintains. It compiles a comprehensive record of the safety performance of the motor carriers (truck and bus) and hazardous materials shippers who are subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) or the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR). All U.S. companies that operate as for-hire carriers, transport passengers in interstate commerce or transport federally-regulated commodities are required to have a Motor Carrier Number.
