Volvo Trucks enhances fleet management with automated remote updates in Volvo Connect

Volvo Trucks automates remote updates for improved fleet uptime

March 14, 2025
Volvo Trucks will now streamline over-the-air updates for customers by sending software updates to opted-in fleets.

Volvo Trucks North America recently announced enhancements to Volvo Connect, its digital fleet management platform, and the remote programming offering for the all-new Volvo VNL and VNR, as well as legacy product offerings. Volvo Trucks will now streamline over-the-air updates for customers by sending software updates to opted-in fleets. With remote programming, Volvo Trucks can continuously improve the efficiency and performance of a customer’s truck.

Fleets that opt in to proactive updates will no longer need to check for pending software updates manually. On average, Voldo said, fleets with fully updated truck populations experience a 24% reduction in unplanned stops compared to trucks in non-updated fleets.

In addition, changing vehicle parameter settings will be available in Volvo Connect. The new features in the Volvo Connect portal allow customers to adjust the most common parameter settings, creating a more streamlined experience and putting the fleet manager in the driver’s seat.

“The all-new Volvo VNL, our most connected truck ever built for the North American market, set a new industry standard. Now, we enable customers to use the power of that connectivity to adjust parameters through the Volvo Connect portal. This offers significant fleet management value, ensuring optimal truck operation,” Magnus Gustafson, VP of connected services for Volvo Trucks North America, said. “Starting with series production of the all-new Volvo VNR, we’ll transition to proactive software updates, easing fleet managers' workload and maintaining peak vehicle performance.”

With the Volvo Connect portal enhancements, customers can now modify and deploy the most commonly adjusted parameters such as maximum road speed, pedal maximum, cruise maximum, and idle shutdown settings. These changes can be applied to specific trucks or the entire fleet through the Volvo Connect portal. Customers can also create and save templates, receiving alerts if a truck deviates from the designated template.

“Fleet managers want their trucks to stay updated without added complexity,” Gustafson added. “With proactive remote programming updates and new parameter features in Volvo Connect, we’re giving customers the best of both worlds—effortless automatic updates where possible and direct control when desired.”
