Driver scoring is continuously calculated in real time, and scores are available to supervisors via an online portal. According to the company, AngelTrax’s unique data collection and algorithms, along with Direct to Driver coaching, reduce the risks of wrecks and fatalities.
“We evaluate every second of the trip. At the beginning of each month, each driver starts with a score of zero. Like golf, the lower the score, the better. So, let’s Drive to Zero,” Howard said. “Our exclusive Direct to Driver Coaching option gives the driver direct notification on what he or she needs to do to improve their driving habits. By developing this program, we have removed this burden from the safety directors, giving them more time for other responsibilities.”
Three to six months after the exclusive Direct to Driver Coaching program is implemented, trends will show distracted or aggressive driving raises the score, indicating increased risks of accidents and potential fatalities, and improvement lowers the score.
All scoring is done by machine, not humans, according to AngelTrax. Excluding the human element from the scoring process allows for a more accurate and fair comparison of drivers for rankings.
“Our competitors use humans reviewing video to score drivers, but that is entirely subjective. If five reviewers looked at the same video, they could potentially end up with five different scores for the same driver. Our proprietary method eliminates this problem.” Howard explained. “Though we review thousands of videos, we do not have to see them to know how you drive. We can determine if you are aggressive or distracted or both in a very short time. The video merely gets us to the root cause of one’s driving habits. From our unique scoring algorithms and video reviews, we are able to perform direct coaching to the driver to help assist him or her in becoming a safer driver. This will help eliminate accidents as well as casualties.”
