To assist customers using TuSimple’s “driver-out” SAE L4 autonomous mode, the autonomous vehicle (AV) technology provider is pairing Werner Enterprises’ roadside service support system with its Autonomous Freight Network (AFN). This is intended to provide TuSimple’s customers with immediate roadside service or expedited maintenance.

“Uncompromised safety and unparalleled service are prerequisites for driver-out operations along the TuSimple autonomous freight network,” said Jim Mullen, TuSimple’s chief administrative and legal officer. “Our service alignment with Werner Enterprises assures our fleet partners of expedited, safe and efficient service and support.”
This integration is expected to happen first in the Texas Triangle, or the area in between Austin, Dallas, and Houston. The TuSimple AFN, which spans from Arizona to Florida, allows freight to be move by Level 4 AVs safely and reliably. The network already has 11,200 mapped miles, with major logistic routes eyed in future expansions. This integration is part of the TuConnect platform, a major piece of the AFN ecosystem.

According to TuSimple, carriers will have multiple choices for service, including their preferred dealership, aftermarket service providers, or a Werner authorized service center, which offers 24/7 support.
“TuSimple is advancing the industry and redefining the way freight moves along the TuSimple autonomous freight network. Our alliance will enable TuSimple customers to receive benchmark service and support in the event of a service issue,” said Derek Leathers, CEO of Werner Enterprises.
TuSimple hopes to undertake paid freight operations by the end of 2023.
