Michelin, Benore Logistic test electric last-mile delivery truck

The monthlong test will be conducted at Michelin’s plant in Sandy Springs, South Carolina. The initiative aims to validate the capabilities of electric vehicles in the last-mile delivery segment.

Michelin North America and Benore Logistic Systems have begun testing a new all-electric Class 8 delivery truck in upstate South Carolina.

The monthlong test, being conducted at Michelin’s plant in Sandy Springs, is designed to further validate the capabilities of electric vehicles in the last-mile delivery industry while advancing Michelin’s environmental sustainability efforts, the company said in a press release.

“Michelin is committed to developing the latest in cutting-edge technology, not only in our tires, but in everything we do,” Karen Schwartz, VP of B2B marketing for Michelin North America, said in a statement. “Electric vehicles are a ‘zero-emission’ solution, which means electromobility is a practical way to fight global warming and pollution. Developing electromobility, which is critical to advancing the energy transition, goes hand in hand with reducing oil consumption and spurring growth in renewable energies.”

Benore Logistic Systems also said it is eager to further test this technology.

“At Benore Logistic Systems, we continuously challenge the status quo. We received our first electric truck in April 2022, and we’re excited to now be testing the Nikola Tre battery-electric Class 8 tractor,” said Dennis Kunz, VP of revenue strategy and development at Benore. “There is a wide variety of battery-electric Class 8 tractors available in the market. Luckily, we get to test this particular model and gather more industry-specific knowledge.”

Earlier this year, the Nikola Tre BEV was deemed eligible for the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project program by the California Air Resources Board. This year, several fleets have announced their intent to purchase the Tre, which has been touted to have a range of up to 350 miles.
