The U.S. needs more than 1.2 million public charging stations to go with another 28 million private EV chargers needed by 2030 to meet federal emissions-reduction targets. Global transportation power technology provider Cummins has a new partnership to help fleets with charging infrastructure.
Cummins and vehicle fast-charging supplier Heliox are partnering to sell and service EV chargers in North America. The partnership announced two new fast-charging solutions—mobile and stationary DC chargers—designed for fleets transitioning to battery-electric vehicles.
The announcement comes two weeks after Amy Davis, president of Accelera by Cummins, told thousands of fleet and transportation executives that passenger vehicle charging solutions will not easily translate for commercial vehicle operations. She said Cummins’ long history of powering commercial fleets would translate into new trucking power technologies on the road to reducing emissions.

“We have been innovating battery technology since 2017 and are now showcasing our third-generation design to give our customers the power and reliability they need to decarbonize their fleets,” Davis said during the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Anaheim, California, on May 3.
Cummins’ new partnership with Heliox would bring two DC charging systems to the fleet market: the Mobile 50, a mobile 50 kW DC charger, and the Flex 180, a stationary 180 kW DC charging system.
“We have a storied history of building innovative partnerships that combine strengths to create incremental value for our customers,” said Zach Gillen, GM of Cummins sales and service in North America. “Our relationship with EV charging partners builds on this legacy, and we are excited to work together to better serve customers who rely on battery-electric technology. It’s yet another step in our journey to Destination Zero. Our collaboration with Heliox will deliver a reliable solution to support fleet customers in reaching their sustainability and emissions goals.”
Two new EV chargers for fleets
The Mobile 50 charger plugs into 480V AC wall sockets and can be used anywhere a compatible power source exists. Because it’s portable, it does not require installation, which the companies said would save fleets on infrastructure costs.
The Flex 180 solution offers up to three dispensers capable of static, sequential, and dynamic charging for fleet customer flexibility, according to Cummins. Dispensing options include plug and pantograph for transit bus customers.

Both EV charger products are available through Cummins’ North America distribution network. Through Cummins Sales and Service, fleet customers can expect similar EV charging service to what the Tier 1 commercial vehicle supplier offers for its other power products.
“We look forward to working with Cummins to accelerate their efforts to provide electric vehicle charging solutions for fleets,” said Michael Colijn, CEO of Heliox. “Charging infrastructure is a critical component in adopting electrified technology, and we’re proud to play a role in helping Cummins customers on their journey to zero-emission vehicles.”
Together, Cummins and Heliox are committed to supporting fleet decarbonization transitions, which align with Cummins’ Planet 2050 Strategy. Earlier this year, Cummins launched Accelera, a rebranding of its New Power segment to bring zero emissions solutions to markets even faster.
“Cummins is going to be a leader in this decarbonization for fleets,” Davis told FleetOwner after the March rebranding. “We are going to help them through it.”
