Bergstrom Inc. has entered into an agreement with KBi/Kold-Ban International to market KBi’s KAPower super capacitor system. Bergstrom believes the KAPower, which is a supplemental power source that assists cranking batteries in starting a vehicle, is a good fit with its Nite no-idle system for trucks that need power but not the weight associated with multiple batteries.
“This is a natural fit for us as well as KBi,” said Bill Gordon, Nite vp-sales aftermarket. “Super capacitors can allow for the reduction in the number of starting batteries and therefore result in significant weight reductions. We’re very excited about being able to help our customers make their Nite systems even more effective.”
The KAPower system is initially energized from the vehicle’s electrical system and stores that energy until needed. With a service life of 500,000-plus cycles, the super capacitor system is virtually unaffected by cold temperatures and is maintenance-free, Bergstrom said.
The system is most often installed in place of a Group 31 battery and is described as ideal for helping power the Nite.
