Love’s to purchase CNG Freightliner tractors

March 13, 2013

Love’s Travel Stops will purchase 50 Freightliner Cascadia trucks with compressed natural gas (CNG) engines for its fuel hauling fleet. The vehicles, powered by the Cummins Westport 12L engine, operate under the Gemini Transport brand.

“We’ve had great success with the CNG engine in delivering fuel to Love’s locations in our home state of Oklahoma,” said Brent Bergevin, director of transportation for Gemini Transport. “The CNG engine has a 450-mi. range, and we’ve seen a significant cost benefit in using CNG as a transportation fuel.”

Gemini will purchase and take delivery of the 50 trucks in the fourth quarter of this year through ATC Freightliner in Oklahoma City.

“As the natural gas truck market share leader, Freightliner’s knowledge and expertise was very helpful in our selection process,” said Bergevin.

Love’s recently announced an expansion of its network of fast-fill CNG locations for Class 8 trucks to the Texas Triangle cities of Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The new trucks will be used to deliver fuel in these metro areas and Oklahoma City.

Love’s has also opened a new Travel Stop in Sweetwater, TX.

The newest includes 85 truck parking spaces, an Arby’s restaurant and a Love’s Truck Tire Care center.

Bulk DEF will be available at the pump at all diesel lanes, along with RFID cardless fueling technology, CAT scales, five showers and other amenities to serve drivers.

Professional truck drivers will receive double “My Love Rewards” loyalty points on purchases at the new location through April 30.

“We select where to open new locations based on customers’ needs,” said Greg Love, president of Love’s Development Companies. “We are confident that the Sweetwater location will be a welcome stop on I-20, and we will continue to build new locations to serve more professional drivers nationwide.”
