Recall roundup: Safety notices issued for terminal tractors and trailers

Dec. 27, 2023
The NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature loose steering wheels and loose axle spindle nuts on certain commercial vehicles operating in the U.S.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including Terberg Benschop and Great Dane.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Loose steering wheels on Terberg Benschop models

Terberg Benschop B.V. is recalling certain 2021-2022 YT193 terminal tractors. Paint on the mounting surface of the steering linkage can wear off, which may cause the bolt to become loose or break, resulting in a loss of steering control. A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects three vehicles. Dealers will disassemble, clean, and reassemble the steering linkage mounting surface. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Terberg Benschop customer service at 348459294. Terberg Benschop's number for this recall is CAM0156.

2024 Great Dane models are experiencing loose axle spindle nuts

Great Dane Trailers is recalling certain 2024 Champion trailers. The axle spindle nut may have been improperly tightened. A loose axle spindle nut can allow the wheel to detach from the trailer, increasing the crash risk.

This recall potentially affects 346 vehicles. Great Dane will inspect and tighten the axle spindle nut and/or rebuild the hub as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 10, 2024. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 877-369-3493.
