Eaton Corp. has announced its UltraShift Highway Value (HV) transmission will be offered by Hino Trucks on 2009 model year 268A and 338 trucks.
According to Eaton, independent testing showed the UltraShift HV, an automated mechanical transmission, provided 6 to 19% fuel economy savings compared to conventional automatic transmissions with torque converters. The Eaton transmission, designed for Class 6 and 7 vehicles with 195 to 260 hp diesel engines, is capable of torque capacities up to 660 lbs. per ft. and loads up to 33,000 lbs. GVW, the company added.
“The UltraShift transmission has been designed to be fuel efficient from the start,” said Fran Duffy, business unit manager of Eaton’s light and medium-duty transmission division. “The UltraShift HV delivers fuel efficiency from about three miles per hour and up, where a conventional automatic wastes fuel until “lock-up” occurs at approximately 24 miles per hour.”
Eaton also announced that it will offer replacement kits for Fuller clutches that combine clutch and transmission components into one package. The kits are available for the RT and FR Series for the company’s Easy-Pedal and Solo clutch designs, and includes the replacement clutch, four clutch release shaft bushings, front bearing cover gasket, outer and inner input shaft snap rings, shift lever tower gasket, front bearing cover, clutch housing gasket, input shaft bearing, pilot bearing, input shaft assembly, clutch brake, and clutch release fork, the company said.
