Carlisle Motion Control Industries has developed a UV coating for its Altec remanufactured brake shoes that is said to be “extremely resistant to chemical, heat and water exposure.” Called RustGard, the coating is applied to the shoe table before the brake lining is attached.
RustGard was developed to address “rust-jacking,” which can occur when rusting brake shoes lead to premature brake-lining failure. This situation is most common when vehicles are exposed to road chemicals.
According to Carlisle, brake shoes treated with RustGard develop less than 10% surface rusting after 1,450 hours of exposure to salt spray, compared to 50% rusting after only 750 hours of exposure for those not coated. www.carlislemotion.com
