Navistar Defense has awarded two contracts to Hendrickson and AxleTech International to supply more than 700 independent suspensions for its military vehicles.

The contracts specify 250 suspensions for Navistar’s International MaxxPro Dash ambulances and 471 for mine resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles.

Hendrickson has led the engineering, testing and validation of the systems from its headquarters and advanced test laboratory in Woodbridge, IL. AxleTech’s planetary axle independent suspension technology is joined with Hendrickson’s engineered sub-frame for use on the MaxxPro Dash units.

“Hendrickson is pleased to have been awarded this business from Navistar Defense. As the Tier I supplier, we have partnered with AxleTech to supply important axle components for this integrated system,” said Doug Sanford, vice president & general manager of Hendrickson’s Truck Suspension Systems. “Our combined suspension/axle solution provides advanced independent technology for the MaxxPro Dash ambulance and MRAP vehicle. Furthermore, we are proud to use our expertise in vehicle dynamics, suspension design and vehicle integration to help develop high-performing emergency vehicles that help protect our soldiers.”

Work on the suspensions began in June at Hendrickson’s Kendallville, IN, facility and at AxleTech’s Oshkosh, WI, facility. Delivery is expected in September.

AxleTech is a General Dynamics company.
