ConocoPhillips Co. has upgraded its Kendall GT-1 Diesel synthetic blend engine oil for light-duty vehicles to meet the new API CJ-4 oil-service category.

Kendall GT-1 Diesel, designed for use in diesel engines for light trucks and SUVs is formulated to provide wear protection, disperse soot, minimize deposits on critical engine parts and resist viscosity breakdown even in severe services such as towing and hauling at high temperatures, said Reginald Dias, director-commercial lubricants for ConocoPhillips Lubricants.

“The synthetic blend formulation of Kendall GT-1 Diesel helps it to provide better oxidation resistance, reduced oil consumption and improved low-temperature pumpability than typical conventional, all-mineral based engine oils,” said Dias. “In addition, the upgraded GT-1 Diesel exceeds the performance requirements of major North American OEMs for vehicles equipped with light-duty diesel engines from Cummins, General Motors [Duramax] and International.”

He added that meeting the API CJ-4 standard means Kendall GT-1 Diesel is formulated with advanced, low SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur) additive technology for compatibility with exhaust aftertreatment devices such as diesel particulate filters (DPFs).
