Carrier Transicold has announced its Supra truck refrigeration units have been certified as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 standard

Carrier Transicold has announced its Supra truck refrigeration units have been certified as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 standard. The Tier 4 requirement signifies a 50% particulate matter reduction compared to the previous standard, with Supra reducing it an additional 40%, Carrier said.

According to the company, Carrier is the first manufacturer to offer an engine-swap solution for easy compliance with California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements for diesel truck refrigeration units.

“It’s completely backward-compatible,” said David Dunn, product manager – truck products. “A new Tier 4 engine can fit into any corresponding older model Supra – Tier 2, Tier 1 or older – without any special modifications. It’s a direct swap.”

The Tier 4 engines were initially phased in this February and are now standard issue for the Supra 550, 650, 750, 850 and 950, as well as Genesis R-90 units, the company said.
