Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) are now offering retrofit diesel particulate filters (DPF) that will allow operators using non-EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) engines sold from 1996 to 2002 to meet California emissions requirements

Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) are now offering retrofit diesel particulate filters (DPF) that will allow operators using non-EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) engines sold from 1996 to 2002 to meet California emissions requirements.

The DPFs come with a five-year/150,000 mi. warranty and can be ordered through any Mack or Volvo dealer in the U.S. or Canada. The DPF, which must be installed by the dealer, is integrated into existing exhaust systems and is offered in various sizes based on engine displacement and horsepower.

The new regulations from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) apply to all diesel-powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs. that operate in the state. CARB, which will offer financial assistance and incentives for DPF purchases, projects their use will reduce particulate matter emissions by 13 tons a day in 2014.
