Firm brings pneumatic landing gear to U.S.

April 15, 2014

Ireland-based Prime Transport Solutions (PTS) will be offering its pneumatic landing gear, PTS50, in the U.S., following a successful launch in Europe.

“We are on the receiving end of requests from several best practice end-users.  Global distributors have come forward as well as OEMs.  Hyundai has made the product an option.  Others have asked for exclusivity,” said David White, PTS managing director.

According to the company, the benefits of pneumatic landing gear are many, including the removal of a crank handle for safer operation; the removal of the screw and nut mechanism, which are the weakest components in a cranked leg; the knowledge that all trailers will be dropped to the same height so drivers can back straight under; a locking pin that will not allow the landing gear legs to collapse; and a 20% increase in parking efficiency since drivers will not have to maneuver between trailers to raise or lower landing gear.

The pneumatic landing gear can also be operated manually in the event of an air loss. It also accommodates side skirts, allowing the trailers to be fully skirted since manual handles are eliminated.

“The first stage of our plan was product awareness, we knew the PTS50 was going to be big but we never anticipated just how quickly the market place would recognize the PTS50 as the natural successor to traditional ‘cranked-based’ technology legs,” said White. “We have been overwhelmed. It’s not just in the U.S. where it has taken off, we have been shipping the PTS50 across Canada, the UK & Europe as well as Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.”
