Mack Trucks played a role in the success of the 21st Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) Charitable Auction at WasteExpo 2015, with bids for three Mack-based models reaching a combined total of $870,000. All proceeds raised by the auction support the EREF’s research and continuing education efforts.Mack provided three chassis, a Mack TerraPro Low Entry, a Mack TerraPro Cabover and a Mack Granite, each featuring a body donated by Heil, McNeilus and Galbreath, respectively.“Mack is extremely proud to have been such a big part of this year’s EREF charitable auction,” said Curtis Dorwart, vocational products marketing manager. “Thanks to a tremendous response by the bidders on these trucks, EREF is able to further its mission to fund scientific research, as well as educational efforts about waste management practices.”Scholarships awarded by EREF support students in master’s, doctoral or post-doctoral waste management research and education programs with tuition assistance. More than 50 scholarships have been awarded to date, with several recipients now in influential waste management positions across the United States. In addition to its educational work, EREF said it is also the only private, grant-making organization with the sole mission to support solid waste research and education initiatives. Prospective grant proposals are reviewed by EREF’s Research Council, which is composed of experts from industry and academia.“As the only organization of its kind dedicated to waste industry research and education, EREF depends on the generosity of people in our industry to carry out our mission,” said Richard Burke, CEO of Advanced Disposal and Chairman of the EREF Board of Directors. “Thanks to the incredible amount raised by the donations from Mack and our other auction contributors, we are able to continue helping lead our industry to a more sustainable future.”
