Russian efficiency

July 29, 2016
Three hundred pieces of equipment are used as Russian road crew repaves road in just one day in this time-lapse video.

Russian efficiency. No, I’m not talking about the ability to read emails, although it looks like they may be quite good at that. I’m talking something more fundamental to society – quality roads.

I don’t know that anyone has ever considered Russian roads to be a global model of excellence. And the following video isn’t to suggest they are in any way. But, in watching this time-lapse video shot by Dmitry Chistoprudov, you have to wonder if maybe Russia has a more efficient model of road improvement.

Chistoprudov recorded a road crew (is that even the proper term for what we are about to see?) repaving Moscow’s Tverskaya street.

The repaving project covered approximately 345,000 sq. ft. of roadway. I'm not a construction guru, but raise your hand if you think that in this country, there's a good chance this project would require a minimum of 3 weeks and result in a lot of complaining – by both drivers and residents.

In Moscow, it takes less than 24 hours, according to Chistoprudov. According to Popular Mechanics, the project involved approximately 300 pieces of equipment.

Watch the video and marvel at the overall efficiency of the project. The quality, I’m not so sure.
