Recall Roundup: Safety recalls issued for commercial vehicles

NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature overloaded electrical systems, tie rod failure, missing labels, and more.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Autocar, Daimler Truck, Mack Trucks, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Autocar ACX & DC axle lock nuts improperly secured

Autocar is recalling certain 2023-2024 ACX and DC vehicles. The axle lock nut may be improperly secured, allowing the wheel end to separate. The wheel end separating from the vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 1,374 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and secure or replace the lock nut. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 26. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 888-218-3611. Autocar's numbers for this recall are ACX-2402 and DC-2405.

FCCC fuel filter hoses may disconnect and leak fuel

Daimler Truck North America is recalling certain 2023-2024 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCR and 2024 XBS, XCM chassis. The remote fuel filter hoses may become separated from the fittings, which can result in a fuel leak and a lack of fuel supply to the engine. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the fire risk. Additionally, a lack of fuel can cause an engine stall, increasing the crash risk.

This recall potentially affects 56 vehicles. Cummins will replace the fuel filter hoses. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 21. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is F1003.

Ford E-450 overloaded electrical system may cause fire

North Central Emergency Vehicles is recalling one 2021 Ford E-450 vehicle equipped with Weldon 8X16 Input-Output nodes. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits. Overloaded electrical circuits can overheat, increasing the risk of fire.

This recall potentially affects one vehicle. Weldon will update the firmware. The owner notification letter is expected to be mailed June 2024. Owners may contact Akron Brass customer service at 800-228-1161 or North Central customer service at 320-395-2529.

Mack Anthem & Pinnacle tie rod failure

Mack Trucks is recalling certain 2025 Anthem and Pinnacle trucks. The tie rod assemblies may contain an improperly heat-treated ball stud that can fail, resulting in a sudden loss of steering control. A sudden loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects seven vehicles. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the tie rod ends as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 5. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0466.

Ram ProMaster missing door beam & incorrect label

Chrysler is recalling certain 2021-2024 Ram Promaster vehicles. The vehicles are missing a side door beam, and the tire placard contains incorrect seating capacity information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 214, "Side Impact Protection," and 110, "Tire Selection and Rims." A missing side door beam may not provide adequate occupant protection in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Incorrect seating capacity information can result in an improperly loaded vehicle, increasing the risk of injury in a collision.

This recall potentially affects 266 vehicles. Dealers will install a door beam and apply an overlay label. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 26. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is 53B.

Ram 1500 rearview camera image may not display

Chrysler is recalling one 2022 Ram 1500 Classic vehicle. The wiring harness may short-circuit and prevent the rearview image from displaying. As such, this vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility." A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the crash risk.

This recall potentially affects one vehicle. Dealers will replace the wiring harness. The vehicle has been remedied. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 65B.

Rivian R1T & R1S side curtain airbags may not deploy properly

Rivian Automotive is recalling certain 2022-2024 R1T and R1S vehicles. The attachment clips on the upper B-pillar and/or C-pillar trim panels may have been damaged during a service procedure. Damaged pillar trim panel clips can result in improper side curtain airbag deployment, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

This recall potentially affects 1,723 vehicles. Rivian will replace the pillar trim panels. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 26. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM 1464.

Volvo Trucks VN tie rod failure

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain 2025 VN trucks. The tie rod assemblies may contain an improperly heat-treated ball stud that can fail, resulting in a sudden loss of steering control. A sudden loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects three vehicles. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the tie rod ends as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 5. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2404.

Wabash trailers’ base rails improperly bonded

Wabash National Corporation is recalling certain 2024-2025 RFCVHSC refrigerated van trailers. The base rails may not be bonded properly and can detach, reducing the structural strength of the trailer. Base rails that detach can cause cargo to shift or fall, resulting in a loss of trailer control and increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 521 vehicles. Dealers will install an additional attachment plate. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 4. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 765-771-5404.
