Recall Roundup: New safety recalls issued for commercial vans and trucks

Aug. 7, 2024
NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature improperly tightened driver’s seat assemblies and insufficient numbers of emergency exits.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Ram and Mack.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Ram ProMaster models’ insufficient number of emergency exits

The Braun Corporation is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ram ProMaster 11-passenger vehicles. The vehicles may not have a sufficient number of emergency exits. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release." An insufficient number of emergency exits can prevent or delay passengers from exiting the vehicle during an emergency, increasing their risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 14 vehicles. Dealers will replace the driver-side window with an emergency exit window. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 20. Owners may contact Braun customer service at 800-488-0359.

An improperly tightened seat pedestal and seat belt attachment may not restrain the occupant as intended, increasing their risk of injury during a crash.

This recall potentially affects 242 vehicles. Dealers will replace and tighten the seat pedestal and seat belt attachment bolts. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 27. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0469.
