NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature damaged brake lines; loose, damaged wires; and more.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from General Motors and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Chevrolet, GMC models’ brake line may be damaged

General Motors is recalling certain 2013-2019 Chevrolet Express Cutaway and GMC Savana Cutaway vehicles equipped with optional GM-provided body mounts. The brake line may have insufficient clearance to the body mounts, which can result in brake line damage that can lead to a brake fluid leak. A brake fluid leak can result in brake failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 18,325 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the brake line as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 4. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N242466950.

Chevrolet, GMC models’ improperly tightened seat belt bolt

General Motors is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles. The left or right front seat may have a seat belt buckle attachment bolt that was not tightened properly. A loose seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 151 vehicles. Dealers will tighten the left and right front seat belt buckle attachment bolts. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 4. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N242453720.

Motiv models’ loose, damaged wires can cause loss of drive power

Motiv Power Systems is recalling certain 2017-2020 E-450 and F-59 vehicles equipped with a Motiv Gen 4 EPIC and 2020-2023 F-53 and F-59 vehicles equipped with a Motiv Gen 5 EPIC powertrain. The wiring harness may be missing a heat shrink insulator and retention clip. The 12-volt control wires may deteriorate and loosen, causing a loss of connection to the high-voltage batteries and drive power. A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 151 vehicles. Motiv field support technicians will inspect and correct any loose wiring and replace damaged 12-volt control wires. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 11. Owners may contact Motiv customer service at 650-458-4804.
