Five years ago, the Department of Energy (DOE) awarded Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) a $40 million grant as part of the OEM's participation it the federal agency's SuperTruck program; a grant DTNA matched with $40 million of its own money. One of the first results from that collaboration is a Freightliner-badged SuperTruck concept Class 8 tractor capable of attaining 12.2 mpg.
