2025 FleetOwner 500: For-hire fleets with the most trailers

March 7, 2025
Here are the top 10 commercial fleets with the most trailers, according to the 2025 FleetOwner 500: For-Hire list.

The 2025 FleetOwner 500: For-Hire list ranks the largest motor carrier and commercial fleet operations in the U.S. by total registered power units. Released in February, the FO500 saw many ranking shifts after a busy 2024 of carrier acquisitions, mergers, consolidations, and expansions.

In addition to ranking the largest overall for-hire fleet operations, FleetOwner breaks down these companies into categories based on equipment, cargo types, and industry segments. This media gallery focuses on the fleets with the most trailers; upcoming FleetOwner top 10 lists will rank fleets by business categories such as agriculture, construction, bulk, and more.

This year's first five spots on the top 10 trailer list remained the same as last year. At No. 1 is FedEx with 148,600 trailers, a sizable increase from its total last year of 139,752. Following closely behind is J. B. Hunt Transport with 148,360 trailers. No. 3 is Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings with 93,295 trailers, a much bigger gap than between No. 1 and No. 2. Next is UPS with 93,174 trailers. And No. 5 is ContainerPort Group with 85,757 trailers.

The last five spots on this list featured a slight shake-up. Schneider National is still No. 6 with 75,846 trailers. But TFI International shot up to No. 7 from last year's No. 10 spot. TFI now boasts 48,211 trailers, a big difference from last year's 33,381. Other than this change, the rest of the list remains very similar to last year's. No. 8 is Old Dominion Freight Line with 45,928 trailers. R+L Carriers is No. 9 with 45,896 trailers. And coming in at No. 10 is Estes Express Lines with 45,009 trailers.
