The American Trucking Assns. (ATA) announced that retired Army General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, commander of U.S. troops in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the 1990-91 Persian Gulf war, will speak at ATA's 2001 Management Conference and Exhibition, set for October 28-31 at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN.

ATA announced last week that because of the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, it would change the theme of its conference to “Standing Together, Moving America Forward.”

"If anyone can match the right words with the new theme, it is General Schwarzkopf," said William Canary, ATA interim president & CEO. "When it comes to rallying Americans to a just cause, few can do as well."

Schwarzkopf will address ATA's general membership breakfast on October 31, the final day of the annual conference. His remarks are titled "From the Boardroom to the War Room.”

"We are certain he will give a great speech and will offer a unique perspective into the tragic events of September 11, as well as what he believes can be expected in the coming days," said Canary.
