Con-Way Transportation Services will enter the airfreight forwarding business May 14 when it opens Con-Way Air Express. The startup company will open with 13 service centers, each having its own dedicated operations and sales staff, and an agency network that has been set up to provide full coverage for all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
“Our LTL and expedited operations have given us an excellent vantage point for services positioned on either side of the airfreight market,” said Gerald L. Detter, president and CEO of Con-Way. “Adding an airfreight option for our customers is just a natural step in extending our services.”
Headquartered in Forest Park, Ga., Con-Way Air Express is near Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport. Pickup and delivery service to regions beyond the territories covered by the company's first 13 offices will be completed through a nationwide network of agents.
Con-Way Air will also link up with the network of facilities and assets within the U.S. operations of Con-Way LTL operations to provide complete delivery coverage on opening day.
