President-elect Donald Trump nominated Sean Duffy, a former Republican representative, for the next Secretary of Transportation.
Duffy is a co-host of Fox Business’s The Bottom Line and is a contributor to Fox News. Duffy previously worked as a reality television star, sports commentator, district attorney, and Wisconsin representative in Congress.
In the nomination announcement, Trump said that Duffy “will prioritize Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness, and Beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges, and airports.”
If Duffy receives Senate approval, he will succeed current Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in leading the Department of Transportation and advising the sitting president.
Trucking industry responds to Duffy appointment
The American Trucking Associations and Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association both congratulated Duffy on the nomination, drawing attention to his support of key trucking policies in Congress.
“During his time in the House, Sean Duffy was focused on issues facing our industry and supported pro-trucking policies to strengthen the supply chain and our ability to keep the nation’s goods moving safely and efficiently., said Chris Spear, ATA president and CEO. “Roads and bridges are our shop floor. We know Congressman Duffy understands that and the opportunity now before us to improve our transportation network by reducing congestion, investing in truck parking, enhancing highway safety, and supporting the development of innovative technologies.”
“OOIDA and the 150,000 small business truckers we represent congratulate Representative Sean Duffy on his nomination as Secretary of Transportation, said Todd Spencer, OOIDA president. “We look forward to working with him in advancing the priorities of small business truckers across America, including expanding truck parking, fighting freight fraud, and rolling back unnecessary regulations.”
