Idle Smart and Transervice deploy battery protection tech to reduce truck downtime

Idle Smart and Transervice Logistics are partnering to deploy automatic battery protection technology across Transervice’s fleet to reduce no-starts and unplanned downtime. The system is designed to ensure truck batteries remain charged and ready without driver intervention.

"No-starts aren't just expensive, they hurt relationships with our customers and delay getting products to store shelves," Mark Prusak, AVP of Transervice Logistics, said. "With Idle Smart, I'm confident the batteries are charged and ready to go. Even when drivers are home for their days off, they know their trucks will start when they get back. That kind of reliability is how we provide the level of service our customers expect from us."

Idle Smart’s system automatically monitors battery state and starts or stops trucks as needed without driver input. The technology aims to prevent battery degradation from repeated jump starts and reduce cold-weather failure risks. Read more…

Descartes acquires Idelic to expand AI-driven fleet safety and logistics network

Descartes Systems Group recently acquired Idelic, a provider of AI-powered driver safety and performance management solutions, to strengthen its logistics network and fleet capabilities. The acquisition integrates Idelic’s safety intelligence platform, which combines training, monitoring, reporting, and coaching into a unified system for fleets. The deal is intended to enhance Descartes’ ability to improve fleet safety and operational decision-making using AI-driven insights.

“Productivity and safety are equally critical for fleet operators,” James Wee, GM of fleet management at Descartes, said. “This acquisition adds critical data to our Global Logistics Network (GLN) and enhances Descartes’ final-mile footprint by adding highly advanced fleet safety capabilities and deep domain expertise.”

Idelic brings a large dataset and predictive models built on billions of miles of telemetry and hundreds of thousands of accident records. The acquisition includes up-front cash consideration of approximately $28 million with potential performance-based earn-out payments of up to $12 million. Read more…

TEN expands Canada footprint with sale-leaseback trailer deal for Shabad Transport

The Transportation Equipment Network (TEN) recently completed an enterprise lease agreement with Shabad Transport, involving 92 dry van trailers in Canada. The sale-leaseback structure allows Shabad Transport to convert fleet assets into working capital while continuing to operate the equipment under a long-term lease.

“In this environment, access to capital and flexibility matter more than ever, and we worked closely with the Shabad Transport team to build a solution that puts capital back in their hands and positions them for the road ahead,” Hooman Yazhari, TEN CEO, said. “This agreement is a strong example of how we work with customers to align equipment strategy with their broader business goals and help them navigate uncertainty with confidence.”

The deal is designed to improve financial flexibility, strengthen the balance sheet, and support gradual fleet modernization without disrupting operations. The agreement also extends a long-term relationship between the two companies and reflects TEN’s continued expansion in the Canadian market. Read more…
