Two organizations have joined forces to offer online training for medical professionals needing to get certified under new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations for performing physical exams on commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.
Oakstone, a provider of multimedia educational programs for healthcare professionals, and NRCME Training Systems, a provider of training programs for U.S. Dept. of Transportation examiners, have announced the strategic partnership to offer NRCME Plus+ Online Training System.
NRCME Plus+ Online Training System is designed to satisfy the training prerequisites for medical professionals – including medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, chiropractic physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants – to sit for FMCSA’s National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) certification exam. FMCSA sites for NRCME certification testing opened Dec. 17 so that medical professionals can qualify for this new certification.
The training system was developed by Dr. Clinton Smith, NRCME Training Systems’ founder and one of the 10 original consultants for FMCSA’s National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

According to NRCME, in 2014, CMV drivers will be required to get a physical by a FMCSA-certified medical examiner.
“Medical professionals that receive the examiner certification early will have the opportunity to establish themselves as accredited providers and to promote their services to trucking firms, commercial and charter carriers, and other driver groups that will need to comply with the FMCSA’s May 21, 2014, deadline,” said Smith.
