A preliminary report shows December’s net orders of heavy-duty Class 8 trucks topping 25,000 units for the second month in a row. According to ACT Research Co. (ACT), its latest study shows net orders stand at 25,5000 units for last month—and that total amounts to a whopping 115% increase over the net orders recorded for December of the year before.

ACT noted that preliminary net order numbers are subject to revision and are typically accurate to within 5% +/-.

“The industry closed 2010 with a string of three strong months of net orders,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT president &senior analyst. “With nearly 71,000 orders booked, the fourth quarter was the best quarter for Class 8 vehicles since the second quarter of 2006.

“The ramp up in [truck] demand is consistent with the up-cycle we have been forecasting for over a year and confirms production levels will increase significantly in 2011,” he added.

ACT publishes new and used commercial vehicle (CV) industry data, market analysis and forecasting services for the North American market as well as the China CV market.
