Seven new cross-border “kiosks” designed to expedite clearance of cargo crossing between the U.S. and Canada have been opened by YRC Logistics, a subsidiary of Overland Park, KS-based YRC Worldwide Inc.
The seven kiosks are located at: the Peace Bridge in Buffalo NY; the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge in Niagara Falls NY; the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit MI; the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron MI; Champlain NY; Pembina ND; and Blaine WA.
The kiosks will be centrally managed by brokerage experts in Buffalo NY (the main headquarters of YRC Logistics’ Cross Borders division) to enable faster processing of shipments and increased communication with carriers.
The company said a camera and a telephone at each kiosk allows for communication with drivers as they present any paperwork needed for customs clearance. The driver scans any required documents based upon the client and the type of goods being shipped, and then YRC’s Buffalo office reviews the documents and returns the required information to the driver for immediate customs processing and border crossing.
YRC said the kiosks are open 24/7 and their connection to Buffalo as a central processing location allows for more consistency and efficiency among filings, leading to increased compliance with government regulations and faster freight processing.
