Vigillo announced its BASIC Measure Analyzer is now included for all Carrier Select subscribers.
“After removal of BASIC percentile scores and Alerts from public view on Dec. 4, 2015, the FMCSA has in accordance with the FAST Act (Highway Bill) now posted the BASIC Measures on over 500,000 motor carriers back in the public view,” said Steve Bryan, CEO of Vigillo. “These measures introduce new complexity to the brokers, shippers, and insurers who depend on that information to make informed decisions on carrier selection and risk management.
“BASIC Measures are very difficult to use in a meaningful way,” Bryan added. “BASIC Measures range from zero to 172 today across the five previously public BASICs. But measures cannot be used to compare carriers across BASICs, nor can measures be used to compare carriers within a BASIC unless you have a deep understanding of the CSA methodology and the construction of Safety Event Groups. We all know CSA percentile scores had their issues, but Measures alone are little understood and fraught with the peril of misuse.”
In response to the new CSA BASIC Measures going public, Vigillo said it created the BASIC Measure Analyzer to provide the analysis needed to make measures meaningful. Users of Carrier Select can now access the Measure Analyzer as an added feature to apply the measures to their own custom BASIC thresholds and get a Green light/Red light returned instantly, and automatically updated each month on the hundreds or thousands of motor carriers they work with.
“Bottom line, the FMCSA complied with the language of the FAST Act, but using BASIC Measures as the new way to use CSA is a very risky proposition for all parties concerned,” Bryan explained. “The new Carrier Select Measure Analyzer feature will make sense of this and provide the insight necessary to make informed, decisions on carrier selection.”
