A Roadmap for Success: Activity-Based Management for Foodservice Distributors, a new primer from Efficient Foodservice Response (EFR), encourages distributors to explore activity-based management (ABM) on an on-going basis for strategic and tactical decisions. The primer gives a step-by-step process for applying activity-based management so distributors can:
Quantify the value they provide to the supply chain.
Understand the dollar impact of inefficient or unnecessary practices.
Implement change to reduce (if not eliminate) activities that add cost but not value.
Identify potential new services.
Identify activities that support growth.
Benchmark and implement continuous improvement.
The primer provides a basic discussion of ABM, guidelines on how to get started, and real examples to illustrate steps and possible pitfalls. Also included are an activity dictionary, a sample distributor activity chart, and additional resources.
For a copy of the primer, contact any of the EFR sponsoring organizations. For more information, phone Mark Allen at 703-532-9400, ext 228; e-mail [email protected]; or visit the web site at www.efr-central.com.
