Andrew Corp is supplying Comtech Mobile Datacom with more than 1,500 MicroPulse global positioning system (GPS) Dual Patch antenna units. The mobile data communications system permits a truck operator to monitor movements of its vehicles and communicate with them real-time.
The mobile data communications system, including the Andrew antenna, is mounted on commercial trucks, enabling the trucks to be tracked and allowing location information to be communicated to the operators' facilities via satellite. The system itself is covertly installed on the commercial truck; the antenna, no bigger than a billfold, is fixed flush with the vehicle roof, and the transceiver electronics are installed out of sight in the vehicle's cab. The system continually reports the vehicle position, and these position updates can be radioed to base, headquarters, or even helicopter crews.
