Greatwide acquires Southpoint Distributing

Greatwide Logistics Services has acquired Southpoint Distributing Inc, a privately held, dedicated contract carriage company.

Greatwide Logistics Services has acquired Southpoint Distributing Inc, a privately held, dedicated contract carriage company.

Based in Winter Haven FL and Auburn GA, Southpoint provides dedicated contract carriage services from grocery distribution centers to retail supermarkets. The acquisition will provide Greatwide with a significant increase in geographic coverage and services within the southeastern United States.

Founded in 1984 by Jack Johns, Southpoint reported revenues of more than $50 million in 2005. With 275 employees, Southpoint lists Publix Super Markets as its largest customer. The founder’s sons, Doug Johns and Jeff Johns, will remain active in the company in a senior management capacity.

Operations of Southpoint will be integrated into those of Greatwide’s Dedicated Transport segment.
