Ruan recently provided transportation for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank’s “Pack the Dome” event, which coincided with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The event, held at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, is NEIFB’s largest food packaging event of the year, with more than 2,100 volunteers who pack bags for the organization’s Backpack Program that serves 4,100 children at 159 different schools across Northeast Iowa each month. Before school dismisses for the weekend, children receive assembled bags of kid-friendly meals and snacks that fit in their school bags.
Lucas Steele, Ruan’s dedicated operations manager, coordinated the company’s drivers and trucks for the event. Ruan transported cereal and soup to the dome for packaging, then hauled 420 pallets of food packs back to NEIFB after the event.
“Continuing our strong partnership with the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, we are happy to be a part of the MLK Day of Service Pack the Dome event,” Steele said. “We had the opportunity to make an impact moving their goods, and I am proud of the drivers, office staff, and corporate team members who have helped us make this happen along the way.”
Additionally, seven Ruan team members from the Cedar Falls operation donated their time at Pack the Dome. MLK Day is the only federal holiday also designated by Congress as a national day of service.
