Seafood company Icelandic USA Inc has awarded ARCO Design/Build Inc a contract for design and construction of its 88,000-square-foot freezer warehouse expansion project.
This facility will be used to store seafood products and further optimize processing and distribution efficiency. With its current storage operations separate from Icelandic’s Newport News VA headquarters, the new facility will be adjacent to company offices.
Rick Barnhardt, vice-president of supply chain at Icelandic, said, “Currently, we use a leased cold storage facility that is away from the headquarters, so we have to double handle everything by receiving raw material in one facility and transferring it to the production building. Our brand-new building will optimize efficiency and make a more productive use of our resources, time, and capabilities. It will be nice to finally have a place to call our own.”
Icelandic specializes in production and distribution of frozen fish fillets and processed seafood products in North America. The company offers both foodservice and retail/club store channels seafood systems and global sourcing capabilities.
