Pilgrim’s Pride plans to deploy Omnitracs’ Mobile Computing Platforms across its entire fleet of 800 trucks by mid-May 2014.
The chicken producer selected the advanced capabilities of Omnitracs’ MCP50 and satellite-enabled platform to cost-effectively help improve regulatory compliance, overall operational efficiency, and communication with drivers, many of whom travel on rural routes with limited connectivity.
Having previously used a different fleet management system, Pilgrim’s Pride turned to Omnitracs to overcome challenges with two-way, driver-dispatch information delivery symptomatic of rural routes the fleet follows. The company also sought a technology solution that could support improved regulatory compliance and enhanced customer service.
“By adopting a combination of Omnitracs MCP50 and satellite-enabled units, we can now ensure seamless information exchange between our drivers and dispatchers, which is essential to a smooth and efficient delivery process—and ultimately, better customer satisfaction,” said Jim Bliss, IT business analyst at Pilgrim’s Pride.
The firm will benefit from these Omnitracs applications:
•Hours of service—an electronic on-board recorder (EOBR) application provides up-to-date information on driver hours availability to help ensure regulatory compliance and increase productivity
•Vehicle inspection report—eliminates paper driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) and makes it easier for drivers to record pertinent inspection information to help fleets save money, increase report accuracy and completeness, and assist with compliance
•Performance monitoring—help improve fuel management by monitoring driver behaviors, such as speeding, idling, and over-revving
•Analytics Manager—converts critical information from Omnitracs applications into actionable and easy-to-use dashboards, graphs, and tables, for a comprehensive view of a fleet’s operations
