In a time when many companies are scaling back brick-and-mortar investments, Hanson Logistics announces a new temperature-controlled facility that will soon be serving fruit and vegetable growers and processors in southwest Michigan.
The new South Haven Logistics Center will become the company’s ninth deep-frozen warehouse, the sixth in Michigan, giving Hanson Logistics the largest network of agricultural-centric freezing, storage, and distribution facilities in the state.
Located on 25 acres in the I-196 Industrial Park, the complex will be adjacent to the new MGB processing facility. This will enable Hanson Logistics to quick-freeze fresh blueberries and cherries, while supporting surrounding farms and food manufacturers with storage and distribution.
“When your objective is to provide best-of-class logistics to the Michigan agricultural community, you can’t get a better location, between the fields and Interstate,” said Andrew Janson, president of Hanson Logistics. “We’re very excited about our continued support of the important agricultural community of west Michigan, as well as our future in South Haven. City officials have been extremely receptive and helpful in getting us to this point, and we look forward to moving ahead with the project as soon as possible.”
Phase One of the project consists of 150,000 square feet, with capacity for 30,000,000 lbs of product, highly efficient refrigeration technology, and optimized egress for Hanson transportation activities. An additional 15 acres is available for a total of three planned phases. A May 2017 completion is expected for Phase One.
