C R England, Shell sign LNG agreement

Zach England, chief operating officer of C R England, announced a multi-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) bulk fueling agreement to be supplied by Shell. C R England will replace existing diesel trucks with LNG-powered trucks using the new 12-liter spark-ignited ISX engine. These trucks will service Southern California, the most mature market for natural gas on-highway transportation in the United States.

“C R England continually strives to find and implement greener transportation options,” said England. “We believe natural gas is the best alternative fuel to diesel currently available for long-haul Class 8 trucks. In addition to reducing emissions, we believe there is the potential to reduce fuel costs and operate trucks that run quieter than those using diesel.” Most Class 8 trucks delivering goods across the world run on diesel. LNG has the potential to offer significant fuel cost savings compared with conventional diesel.  It can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, from production to use, versus conventional diesel and biodiesel in new engines. Burning LNG in spark-ignited engines is quieter than burning diesel in combustion engines. LNG-fueled trucks can operate for longer where noise restrictions apply—for example, delivering to supermarkets in residential areas. Founded in 1920, C R England has its corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City UT and is one of North America’s largest transportation companies and the world’s largest temperature-controlled carrier. Its services include national, Mexico, and regional truckload service in addition to dedicated and intermodal services. Access www.crengland.com for further details.
