Registrar Corp’s FSMA Compliance Wizard, a free tool that helps food facilities, importers and farms determine their possible requirements under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), now incorporates the US Food and Drug Administration’s Intentional Adulteration rule.

Published in May 2016, “Mitigation Strategies To Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration” was the last of FDA’s seven major rules to be completed as part of FSMA.

The Intentional Adulteration rule requires food facilities registered with FDA to develop and implement a written Food Defense Plan. A facility’s Food Defense Plan must include a vulnerability assessment and must identify mitigation strategies for each identified vulnerability, as well as a plan to monitor implementation of those strategies.  Most facilities are required to comply by May 2019.

To determine whether your facility may be required to develop a Food Defense Plan under the Intentional Adulteration rule,  go to www.fsmawizard.com/ and answer a short series of questions about your facility. The FSMA Compliance Wizard also determines your possible requirements under these FSMA rules:

•FDA Preventive Controls for Human Food

•FDA Preventive Controls for Animal Food

•FDA Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)

•FDA Produce Safety

Registrar Corp is an FDA consulting firm that helps food and beverage facilities comply with regulations. Its food safety specialists can review or develop Food Defense and Food Safety Plans, write Foreign Supplier Verification Programs, and conduct FSMA Readiness Audits.
