Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ:WERN), a transportation and logistics company, has received the 2018 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

The Freedom Award is the highest recognition awarded by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to employers for their support of National Guard and Reserve members. Werner was the only carrier selected among the 15 winners from 2,350 nominations.

“Our company is committed to supporting all veterans, veteran spouses and those who currently serve in the National Guard and Reserve,” said Derek Leathers, Werner president and chief executive officer. “We are proud to have the opportunity to support those who have dedicated themselves to serving our country.”

Award nominations come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating. The ESGR received nominations for employers in all 50 states, Guam-CNMI, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.

“I couldn’t do what I do without the support of Werner Enterprises,” said Air National Guard Captain Adam Cassidy. “The company does a fantastic job of honoring and supporting the military community, and they actively maintain contact with family members of deployed service members and provide assistance when needed.”

Founded in 1956, Werner maintains its global headquarters in Omaha NE and offices in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China. Werner is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States, with a portfolio of transportation services that includes temperature-controlled, dedicated, medium-to-long-haul, regional and expedited van. The Werner Logistics portfolio includes truck brokerage, freight management, intermodal, international and final mile services. International services are provided through Werner’s domestic and global subsidiary companies and include ocean, air and ground transportation; freight forwarding; and customs brokerage.
