The California Air Resources Board (CARB) wants model year 2005 transport refrigeration unit (TRU) owners to be aware that today—October 31, 2012—is the last day to purchase Verified Diesel Emissions Control Strategies (VDECS), such as diesel particulate filters, to ensure they will qualify for a compliance extension if delivery or installation is delayed beyond the December 31, 2012 deadline.
Model year 2005 TRU engines must comply with the TRU regulation’s in-use performance standards by Dec 31, 2012.
Purchase orders for VDECS that are placed after October 31 will not qualify for compliance extension if delivery or installation is delayed past Dec 31, 2012. Non-compliant TRUs that don’t qualify for an extension will need to cease operations in California until they can be brought into compliance or risk citation with penalty.
To qualify for these compliance extensions due to delayed delivery or installation, the TRU must be registered at Air Resources Board Equipment Registration (ARBER) and purchase orders must be placed by the purchase order deadlines for VDECS by October 31.
Compliance extension applications, with attached supporting documents, must be received at CARB by Dec 31, 2012.
