GPM Greenscreen LLC has a system it says can significantly cut fuel costs and energy usage.

This new product, called Greenscreen, provides a nanoscreen, protective coating for fins, fans, and coils in refrigeration units that keeps the equipment clean and running efficiently for a full year. Because the equipment is free from dirt and debris build-up, Greenscreen increases air flow by up to 25%. It also brings defrost cycles to early termination, which saves energy costs by not only reducing heating times to defrost the ice, but also reducing temperature recovery times for the unit.

Greenscreen is 100% biodegradable, food-safe when dry, non-corrosive, and inhibits mold and bacteria growth. At less than a micron thick, it does not interfere with the heat transference of the reefer unit.

In 2010, GPM tested Greenscreen’s effect on diesel-powered reefers for a large commercial company. The results were a reduction of defrost cycles and a fuel savings of at least 18%. These results have been verified by the onboard energy use tracking systems on each of the treated trucks. In addition to the fuel efficiency, the trucking company is anticipating extended life and fewer repairs for its refrigeration units. Another benefit is the reduction of its carbon footprint and contribution to the sustainability of the Earth.

Companies that have used Greenscreen’s treatment have said they’re looking forward to having many more trucks treated and many more months of fuel savings.
