Alabama Motor Express (AMX) recently acquired the assets and affiliates of Powell Transport Solutions, a refrigerated freight specialist headquartered in Midland City AL.
According to AMX, the deal adds 35 reefer trailers to its fleet, helping it expand service offerings to a wider customer base in an effort to become the most prominent freight company in the Southeast.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

We are very pleased to add (Powell President) Paul Powell, the Powell Transport Solutions employees and their accomplished drivers to our team. Paul has developed excellent relationships with his company’s long-time customer base, and we look forward to building on that base.”
Powell will serve as the leader of AMX’s refrigerated services division, and AMX said it expects to retain all Powell Transport employees and drivers. In addition, AMX has access to Powell’s customer base, offering them a broad range of truckload and 3PL services.

The acquisition is the latest for AMX, which recently opened offices in Atlanta and Savannah GA. This deal places AMX’s sister company, AMX Logistics, inside major distribution hubs, where it can streamline communications with leading customers and shippers in the region, AMX said.
